Hi, I’m Sarah
…the founder of Breathe Education. I have been teaching in secondary schools both in the UK and Australia for over 20 years – about the same length of time I’ve also been practising yoga. During this time I have noticed that workload, stress and pressure amongst teachers seems to be ever-increasing. Coinciding with this are rising numbers of young people experiencing anxiety and other symptoms of poor mental health.
A few years ago, like many teachers, I burned out. This had a huge negative impact on my physical and mental wellbeing. Something had to change, and that’s when I began to explore a deeper understanding and experience of yoga and mindfulness. Gradually, resilience built and the anxiety lifted as I gained more and more tools to manage the demands of the school workload whilst raising a young family.
I felt that the magic of yoga and mindfulness needed to be shared, so in 2017 I embarked on a Yoga Alliance 200-hour Vinyasa Yoga teaching course. This was the beginning of my ongoing yoga training, which includes further teaching qualifications in pre- and post-natal yoga, and yoga for those with additional needs.
My belief in the power of yoga and mindfulness and the important role it plays in supporting positive mental and physical health and wellbeing at all ages led me to start Breathe Education. My mission is to share the tools to encourage healthy, happy lifestyles for our children and young people and those who educate them.
